Collaboration with Borseggi, Milano

This month, SHIMA-SHIMA and Borseggi Milano began launched the collaboration
of several interesting projects,

Borseggi, which means “pickpockets” in Italian, is part of the Opera in Fiore Cooperative.
Borseggi organises a sewing workshop in Opera prison, located just outside Milano.
They create bags and home accessories from prestigious fabrics that are often donated
by fabric manufacturers.
The products are sewn by inmates at Opera prison, as an expression of redemption.

Opera in Fiore is a non-profit organisation that promotes work for prison inmates
and people with disabilities. Its aim is to create opportunities for disadvantaged people
to integrate into society.

The projects of Opera in Fiore are supported by the city of Milano, in accordance
with the Superintendent of the Regional Prison Administration and the Italian Ministry of Justice.
Various organizations are represented at AIR (Acceleratore di Impresa Ristretta) showroom
in Viale dei Mille 1, in Milano.

For our first collaboration, a Swedish company, IoU Design, had ordered cushion covers
made of SHIMA-SHIMA fabric to be sewn at Opera prison.
The cushions will be used for IoU’s garden furniture collection, and will be exhibited
at the Stockholm Furniture Fair next week.
